Mark your calendars for Friday, 6th February, as Barnsley CAMRA heads to the Chesterfield Winter Beer Festival—a highlight of the early-year beer calendar! We’ll be departing from Barnsley Station around lunchtime (please check our Facebook page for the exact departure time) to attend the afternoon session, which is open from 11:30am - 5 pm. The festival takes place at the Winding Wheel Theatre, an elegant Grade II listed building in the heart of Chesterfield. Originally opened in 1923 as a cinema, it now serves as one of Derbyshire’s finest entertainment venues. Outside, its striking half-timbered façade and ornate central bay window set the tone for the warm welcome inside. Within, you’ll find polished wood, sweeping balconies topped by a stunning glass dome, and a friendly, buzzing atmosphere—perfect for sampling an impressive range of cask ales, ciders, and craft brews. This is a wonderful opportunity to support local breweries during a quieter season for pubs and producers alike. Sharing good beer with good company also does wonders for the soul—getting out, chatting, and laughing together is a great tonic against the darker winter days.
