- September branch meeting and social
Tuesday 30 September 2025
Crown Inn
.
Join us Tuesday 30th September at 8pm for the Barnsley CAMRA branch meeting & social at The Crown Inn, Elsecar (22 Hill Street, S74 8EL). This is a great opportunity for members and friends to catch up, enjoy a pint or two, and sample from their six changing real ales (and excellent food if you’re peckish). The Crown Inn offers one of the best views in the village through its picture window, a large conservatory and beer garden, and (following recent refurbishment) a cosy drinking area by the entrance. Don’t miss this chance to meet fellow CAMRA supporters, discuss what’s going on locally, and share ideas — all in a warm and welcoming setting.
- Yorkshire Regional Club of the year 2025 presentation to Wortley Club
Saturday 4 October 2025
Wortley Men's Club
.
Join us on Saturday 4th October at 5:00 pm at Wortley Men’s Club, Reading Room Lane, Wortley for a special presentation to celebrate their achievement as CAMRA Yorkshire Regional Club of the Year. The award will be presented by Regional Director Kevin Keavney, and we warmly invite members, staff, and supporters to gather for what promises to be a proud moment for the club. It’s a great opportunity to raise a glass, share congratulations, enjoy excellent real ales, and recognise once again the club’s commitment to quality, service and community. Everyone welcome!

Elephant & Castle

A chance to get a bit of exercise and enjoy the countryside, (hopefully) before the weather gets too bad and the evenings draw in.
Meeting at the Elephant & Castle, Hemingfield at 12:00. Those that fancy a hearty brunch to fortify themselves for the day ahead can arrive earlier and sample the breakfast menu. Once finished at the E&C we will follow the old canal towpath to Elsecar and visit the Market Hotel. On leaving Elsecar we will follow the footpaths to Wentworth and spend some time at the Rockingham Arms and the George & Dragon. To finish the day, we will walk to the Horseshoe at Harley.
The total distance is approximately five miles over rolling country, mostly on footpaths.
Timings: Meet at The Elephant & Castle at 12:00 (earlier for brunch, individuals to make their own bookings). Step off at 12:30.
Public Transport: The number 67a bus departs Barnsley Interchange at 9:17 and arrives at Hemingfield at 10:22. The number 2 bus departs from the A6135/B6090 junction (about 500 metres from the Horseshoe) at 16:28, 17:32 and 18:31 and takes about 35 minutes to reach Barnsley Interchange
- October branch meeting and social
Tuesday 28 October 2025 20:00
George & Dragon
.
Our October Barnsley CAMRA branch meeting & social will be held on Tuesday 28th October at 8:00 pm at the George & Dragon, 41-43 Summer Lane, Barnsley (S70 2NW). The George & Dragon—reopened in July 2020 after a full refurbishment—boasts four ever-changing cask ales from local breweries (always including a dark beer.)
Whether you're a long-standing member or thinking of joining, come along to enjoy a great pint, good company, and lively conversation. All welcome!
- November branch meeting and social
Tuesday 25 November 2025 20:00
Dodworth Tap
.
Mark your calendars for Tuesday 25th November at 8:00 pm, when Barnsley CAMRA will meet at The Dodworth Tap, Station Road, Dodworth (S75 3JA). Opened in July 2020 under Woolley Pubs, the Tap has quickly become a stylish local favourite.
With its original stone exterior, semi-circular stone fireplace, trompe l’oeil ceiling, cosy wooden floors, exposed stone features, and a large colliery mural, it’s as much about atmosphere as it is about the beer.
They serve a mix of cask and craft ales alongside premium drinks; there are also several covered outdoor drinking spots and the “dungeon” (a former brick garage) for those wanting something a little different.
Whether you’re a long-standing member or just curious about what CAMRA does locally, come on down for great beer, warm company, and lively conversation. All welcome!
