Isolated old stone building, close to junction 38 of the M1. Front entrance leads to comfortable waiting area where 'just drinkers' are welcome provided all the seats aren't occupied. Up steps is the restaurant area with a large U-shaped bar. Downstairs, the Garden Room, with its own bar, is open at busy times and patio doors lead to the garden and children's play area. This is very much a food-led operation and is renowned for its steaks. New management took over in October 2020 and have redecorated in tasteful fashion from top to bottom. Real ale is no longer on offer, bottles of Timothy Taylor's Landlord is available. The name derives from the fact that the building was once used as a sorting and distribution centre where the roads to Huddersfield, Sheffield and Wakefield/Leeds met.
